Narnia Entry #2: Child Like Forgiveness

In Matthew's gospel account there is a story of his followers asking Jesus who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, seemingly hoping to have a chance at attaining that position.  Jesus responds to the people in a rather unexpected but compelling way by taking a child from the crowd and saying to them that unless they become like a child then they will never be able to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Jesus is calling for childlike faith in that his believers trust in and rely on him like a small child trusts in and relies on their father figure.  The believer is called in this way to love God and abide in Him like a child does with their parent.  This childlike appreciation of God leads to obedience to the Word and its authority.

Lucy embodies childlike faith throughout Narnia but an incredibly interesting moment is when she shows childlike forgiveness.  When Lucy and Edmond enter Narnia and Edmond denies it making Lucy look rather silly, Lucy was rightfully upset but still showed grace and kindness to her brother despite it.  Once they go to Narnia and find out that Edmond was lying, Susan and Peter are rather disappointed in his dishonesty and have him apologize.  Based off so much of the childish banter found in the book one expects some sort of sassy remark or rudeness in response but Lucy responds with a soft, simple, and kind "It's ok."  I find this moment so interesting because it really embodies how Christians are supposed to forgive and show kindness to one another knowing that they are forgiven and shown kindness from God eternally.

Lucy gives an example of what it is like to walk in kindness and grace toward others regardless of what someone says or believes.  People ought to try to be more like Lucy in their everyday lives.
