Narnia #1: Susan's Abscence
In the Final Battle, Susan is the only character not present. They do not dwell on this issue at all. All we know about Susan is that she stopped believing that Narnia exists and refused to talk about it anymore with the rest of those who had seen it. She was the only one of the Pevensies who was not killed in the train crash and the only one who did not get to return to Narnia to see the end of that world. Instead, she was in America. She was pursuing a "normal" life as most do as they grow up, working and living in the United States. But what lead her to be so jaded and disillusioned by her childhood dream land.
I am like Susan in that moment, as most of us are, especially in American culture. We become jaded as we grow. Only believing in what we can verify threw sight or study. And once we become consumed by the need to have proof we stop having an imagination, being curious, or even faith. We are consumed by the sciences and the material world. This is what happened to Susan and it is what has happened to many of those in our culture. As it is easier to believe the life you are pursuing is the best option and there is not a better world out there that is more fulfilling. Maybe another reason Susan lost her belief is because she didn't have a liberal arts degree...
