Narnia Post #1
The world of Narnia has always fascinated
me, as a child this was one of the first fantasy worlds that seemed consistent with
logic like Harry Potter or even Where the Wild Things Are. Of the more fantasy
tropes involved with Narnia that kept it from being too grounded in my opinion
were the talking animals. Early on within the books the reader is introduced to
Mr. and Mrs. Beaver who speak to the children who to their credit take the
entire situation very well. But the truth is, the children should have been
very alarmed because the animals talking insinuated many things about the world
they had just set foot in. As discussed in the Gadamer writing, Philosophical Hermenutics, language is profoundly human
similar to ethics, consciousness, and justice. Had the children known what
language truly implied, what they had walked into they may have turned right
around and went home. They would have missed out on war and hardship but also development
and heroisms that became their legend in the kingdom of Narnia
