Outside Reading #3

When reading the Nichomachean Ethics by Aristotle, the use of idioms to explain complex ethical concepts made me think of the use of myth as an explanatory measure. Idioms that are especially important as they were used within a practical work by the philosopher. If stories can be used to impart meaning to the reader, does that mean idioms, short sayings, or even jokes can do something similar. This also made me recall the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation we watched in which the classroom, the bounds of language the foreign aliens had were far wider and more diverse than the English that the Enterprise used. I feel that the idioms that people use do the same essential thing in saying a lot with few words and expanding the use of language itself.
