Personal Journal #3

Within the world of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the game is coming to a close with the second in the series on the horizon as I, B.J. Blastkowicz, close in on the main antagonist of the game General Deathshead. Deathshead is a high-ranking official within the Nazi effort, heading up the science divisions of the party. His true ambition is to create a singularity between man and machine, finding ways to use the brain as a complex CPU rather than a sentient being. This got me to thinking about the myths of super heroes and comic books, as many times within stories like the ones I am playing through and those within comics, focus is put into the normalization of super human abilities. However, when we see these abilities become fathomable in real life they seem like a horror show. This paradoxical thinking is leading me to think that the human condition is so uniquely important yet fragile, that any alterations seem to be inhuman and the alterity scares us at our core.
