Personal Journal #4

The Next Adventure, the second installment of the modern telling of the Wolfenstein saga, has come about with an interesting new twist. After the events taking place at the finality of the previous game, B.J Blaskowicz is labeled by the Nazi regime as a terrorist and given the nickname “Terror Billy”. This lead me to contemplate the power the difference of words has when it comes to perception. In my view, I had not been acting as a terrorist in BJ’s shoes, rather I was attempting to topple a corrupt and morally unfounded regime. However, the powers that are in charge of this in game universe clearly disagreed calling my “freedom fighting”, terrorism. Reflecting upon this, I found that the terrorist actions I did take were justly so, but only because they were railing against the power structures of the regime in place. All terrorist actions must have some justification but in where does the negative conation fit for the word or where should it be named, freedom fighting. The power in each phrase is wildly different and can show the impact language can have upon perception
