Till We Have Faces #1

The story of part 1 of Till We Have Faces, is one dominated by the reality of Orual attempting to care for her sister who is renamed as Psyche. This is evident to not quite be the case as the part wraps up and the reader is shown that there is an alternate version of this tale being told within temples dedicated to Psyche that assert that Orual was jealous of her sister. From this point on Orual decided on a retelling of the story and the reader is left wondering about what reality is true. However, if existentialist thought can be assigned to this story, one could be left thinking that both are true. Sartre’s assertion of a subjective reality could have explanatory power for both scenarios and leave the reader to their own choices as to what the truth really is. I feel that Lewis would find this to be agreeable through his statement, “truth is always about something, but reality is that about which truth is.”, which may show something to this thought
